Angry Mad about exhaust !

my first exhaust 2 1/4 cat back with dual outlet Muffler think i paid about $340 (sounds) Loud & Raspy Nicknamed "Chainsaw"

OBX 4-2-1 header / OBX dp $200 / Same 2 1/4 cat back with 4" Folgers can off a 240 in junk yard $10
(Sounds Loud as hell/ little rasp decent sound compared to old exhaust)

wanting to tone her down for competition purposes, and being told it would clean up the sound i went with a magnaflow 2.5in 2.5 outlet muffler# 11226 spent 100 bucks installed

First day driving it with the magnaflow & its still as loud as the 4"can with 5 times more Raspyness, it still need to be broken in but that means its only gunna get louder & who knows if the raspyness will go away, its fine up to 3000 from their on till 5 1/2 its raspy and from their to 7 1/2 its smooth as can be Cant even hear it !

im really cunfussed on what to do next ! if i go back to stock its gunna rob performance and sound like a pee shooter

if i go back to a folgers can (most likely do since i was fine with what i had) it will still be as loud though

Any idea what to do next ? it hurts to have to put this much into exhaust when it could go elsewhere but i would like to have a decent sounding car some day !!! :-|

I've been there too, with the 89 GTS I had a straight thru dual tip put in and it was loud, when the cat was replaced it quieted down a tad but eventually got worse again. I went to a muffler shop and got them to put a new resonator as they said it "should" quiet it down a lot... well guess what! they lied! it didn't work shit.

I finally gave up and figured for the 90 GTS I will not go with something that will make it loud, which is why I'm looking for an IS300 muffler OR the Type-S muffler. I might even consider a Supra muffler.

well i thought the magnaflow was spose to be less noisy but it aint its just as loud & sounds like crap, im considering a resonator but that might just tone it down and not get rid of the raspyness (i thought my header got rid of the raspyness) and im at that point where i dont wanna spend money on exhaust anymore its pissen me off how much ive spent on it !! i will give this magnaflow a try till next week if it doesnt clean up im going to throw my folgers can back on at least then i can have it loud an decent sounding or throw the silencer in and have it less noisy & shitty sounding lol

like I said, with mine changing resonators didn't get rid of the problem. I actually thought of going with a small muffler instead of a resonator, couldn't find a muffler small enough to fit in the resonator area though.

On my 90 GTS, I might go with a "Juice Can" like my mechanic calls them and hopefully is not so loud with the silencer on.

may i sugguest the stock resonator and the siliencer on the fart can, when you increase size of the pippings its natural for the car to get louder

You can get a mini muffler maybe, that might work. I've seen them before, these little mufflers that almost look like the OEM muffler. Actually the Kouki AE92s have resonators that look like small mufflers, maybe these work better than the long-type resonator on the Zenki AE92s.

to put in a resonator its 65 bucks id rather not take a chance and be out the money, my best bet will be to put my old muffler back on and have the option to use my silencer for the long road trips, i really dont mind the loudness just sumtimes it really gets to me.. looks like i will be making a FS thread for thee magnaflow Thanks for any sugestions, the next time i tackle the exhaust it will be a turbo lol that will tone things down for sure so i will look forward to that Thanks again
