how much more of a PITA would it be if you pluck the 4AG from a AE86 and plop in a 3S-GTE. (think these ocme in the sw20s?? need a refresher)

how big of a price tag difference would it be in terms of work between the above as opposed to a 20V 4AG swap

helluva more work.... i think number 2 and 3 on the 3sgte run really lean so you'd have to prolly make a custom intake....should check up on that. besides, you woud have to modify the bellhousing in order to fit the orginal t50 gearbox. and we're not even into the fitting issues. it has been done...very few, but i think it would be too much work to make it worth while

Make a adapter plate to mount the tranny.

As for the cylinder's running lean. A stand alone computer with sequential injection can take care of tuning each cylinder on it's own.

3SG(T)E to T50 bellhousings are kicking around, I think I've even seen them for sale on Topi's site.

There is a 3SG(TE) kit that you can get, it comes with the bellhousing and adaptor to fit a W5X Series Transmisson from the Older Celica/Supras. Those transmissions are a said to be tougher than the T50. T50's are said to be good only up to 200hp. I know it's out there, but I'm not sure about what the details are on what comes with such a kit. I'm sure you'd have to worry about custom motor mounts, tranny mounts, driveshafts, output shafts, etc...not to mention all the lines and wiring.

If I had a wad of cash, I'd do it... but I'd use the 3SGE from the Japanese market Altezza, complete with the 6 speed!

Hey Toysport quoted me $7200 U.S. in parts including a jspec NA late model 3sge.

I think the engine was only $700, the rest of the quote was peripheral stuff, custom conversion parts and electronics.

Ya, I think the 4agze is the easiest way to get reasonably priced horsepower. The whole conversion is less than those honduh boys pay for a JR supercharger.

I really wanted a NA engine preferably 1800-2000 cc, the only other option was a 3TC-2TC hi-brid, or stroking the 4ag, both of these would have cost more than the 4agze by the time you add the cost of all the peripheral crap.

Neil

Daaaammn..you have to have deeeep pockets to do that conversion...well at least if you're gonna do it with Toysport. I think all you have to do is find a race-car fabricator, and pay a lot less by doing whatever you can yourself.

What's the current 3SG's output (NA version)? It's above 200 hp right? Not bad for naturally aspirated...and that's stock. Heck, if they can extract like a thousand horses outta that mill, it should be robust enough for most enthusiasts, not like the 4AG, which is built with miniature parts.

Anyway, I'd give enough props to someone that will do it... and pack a streetable 400hp on it.. =) Wheelies in an AE86 anyone?
