Question Oil light

Hello Corolla fans !

I've been having a problem with my '90 SR5 (4AFE) for a few days now. Here's the problem : I'm at a stop light, I'm in "drive" position with my foot on the break pedal. Then rpm starts to go down from about 1000 gradually to near 600 and I noticed my oil lamp lighting up. The more the rpm is going down the more the oil light glows ... I put back the transmission on neutral, rpm goes up near 1000 and the lights goes off. When I drive normally everything is good. As soon as I stop and keep the foot on the break, rpm goes down and oil light comes on. The engine seems about to stall but it doesn't. It's stays around 600 rpm and it seems to shake quite a bit more than usual. Oil level is very good, i'm not losing much (just a puff at startup). Can this have anything to do with me using 5w30 semi-synthetic oil at my last oil change (about 3 weeks ago)?

I'd be very happy to hear if anyone has any ideas about my problem.

Thanks,

Frank

the light comes on because when engine rpm goes too low, the pump doesnt pump enough oil so pressure goes down and the sensor turns on the light.

I see ... Could it be a sign that my oil pump is about to die or the problem is finding why my rmp goes so low ?

Hello again ...

If anybody is interested , I found out what my problem was. A buddy came home to check it out and told me he had to deal with the same symptoms on his car and it was the damn sensor. So we changed it (15$) and everything is back to normal.

Thanks for reading me !

Cool deal, that sounds like the cause, because Toyota oilpumps are practically bulletproof
