7afe 'stumbles' after startup
My 94 7a-fe with 142,000 miles has started to develop an unusual problem. After I start the engine, it seems to 'stumble' a few times; as in the rpm's drop really low for a second and it seems like it could almost stall. It usually does this if the engine is cold, or if it has been off long enough for the temp gauge to be almost to the bottom. It is the same whether the AC is on or not.
If it is dark enough out, you can see the headlights dim severely when the rpm's drop.
The spark plugs have less than 8k miles on them, and I pulled all 4 to visually inspect them and they looked fine. All fluids are at the proper levels and I have not noticed any decrease in performance or mileage, but the problem has been getting worse. It almost stalled on me tonight. Keeping my foot on the gas keeps it from almost stalling, and it does not occur after the engine has been running so I am not worried about getting stranded, I just want to figure out how to fix it.
I appreaciate any help those here can offer.
