1990 transaxle install to replacement jdm 4AFE engine
Okay, I have now had the engine and transaxle each out seperately. Right now the transaxle is out, while the engine is completely installed. The reason I am changing the motor is because the #3 connecting rod broke. Anyway, the transaxle was working just fine before I installed the motor. When the motor was ready to be started, it started right up and runs ok, but it seemed like the transaxle was making some kind of slight rubbing (maybe metal to metal) noise, and the car would not shift into any gear. I checked the trans fluid and it looked extremely high, even though it was perfectly fine before the engine was installed. So we removed the transaxle last night and checked the ears on the trans pump. They have some marks on them that might indicate something was rubbing against them, they are slightly worn, but they are not broken. I'm thinking the torque converter came off the ears when we tightened the converter-to-flexplate bolts. The motor I got had been used with a manual trans before, and mine is an automatic. When I installed my flex plate, I may have put it on backwards by mistake. Does anyone know how to tell which side of the plate should meet the converter? The plate is kinda curved or convex or whatever, so it would have to be installed in a particular way...Is there anything else that would cause these symptoms? How can I be sure that the torque converter is completely on? Finally, what else do I need to be careful of? I dropped the trans with the axles still connected, but the fluid has been drained from the pan. What is the procedure for refilling the trans properly? Thank You in advance for any help!
P.S. The engine misses quite a bit-anyone have ideas? I have changed the plugs, and checked the plug wires for proper continuity. I just purchased and will try new fuel injector seals, and a new oxygen sensor.
Thank You Thank You Thank You
