i kno i must have asked this a million times..but is the injen short air intake good in the rain?? how would i stop the rain from gettin the engine if i get the short ram?
holy shit just buy it!! the short ram intake won't get any water because its.. that's right... SHORT!
The cold air intake will reach all the way to the bottom of the motor because its designed this way in order to get cold air from outside of the car, main reason why if you have a cold air intake you WILL get water in your motor if its raining bad.
unless you drive your car in a creek bed ther all fine!
note the shorter the air intake track the more top end and vice versa!
with a nat asp motor anyway....and thats the distance from the butterfly to the restiction..eg filter!
you can get a short pod and then run a cold air duct if you wish down to fresh air and make a semi ram air induction setup!
Few things, with power you ALWAYS lose mileage... however, you really cant expect even 5hp with an intake. If you want power, you need a scroll on the other end of the intake pipe.
Even with the CAI (the long one), the filter is still a foot above the ground. To have a tremendous problem, the filter would have to be submerged in water -- e.g. in a foot or more of it.
If your car is in more than a foot of water, perhaps you should consider not drowning before worrying about your motor hydrolocking.
I drive around rainy Florida with a CAI -- avoid huge puddles and act like a responsible driver in the rain, and you'll have no issues with the long tube.
Alternatively, the shorties are much cheaper on ebay. Be mindful of your choice though -- not all the 03/04 intakes fit the 05/06.
As for power, anything you feel will most likely be what you thought you would feel because you were expecting it. Realisitically, intakes don't do squat other than make noise. I have an Injen CAI on my XRS, and my room mate has a no-name shortie from Ebay -- our 1/4 times are identical: 60', 1/4, and trap.
I would say you will get a power increase but only a little just make sure your sucking cold air!....and as far as mpg go you might see a bees dick improvment if you drive sedatly but at the end of the day hp=fuel..lol! if ya use it
I did say "raining bad" I should've put "thunderstorm" instead. The chances of getting water or moisture in the motor are still very high during a thunderstorm, you might not get bucketfulls, but you're still getting enough moisture in the motor to create problems. Now if you submerge the filter in a puddle like everyone said above, then you're fuxored!
^ exactly. water drops hit the filter, and get sucked in. therefore causing water to enter the motor. Do what you want but if you get a CAI you will eventually fuck over your motor.
