maintenance required light

I have a 2005 Corolla LE. The last time the maintenance light came on the dude at the dealership said it just needed an oil change and did a little trick where he turned the key to 'on' while holding down the trip meter button. Tried that, didn't work, what am I missing here. How do I turn that light off.

Secondly, does anyone know the EXACT reason that light comes on for a 2005? Is it just an oil change indicator? Or what else is that light signifiying needs maintenance other than fresh juice?

Thanks to all in advance.

Turn key to on position (do not start car) and hold trip meter button until it goes off. simple as that!

It comes on to remind you of service due. You have a service guide in the back of your owners manual that tells you service due every 5K miles. When the light comes on look in your book and whatever milage you have follow the maint. schedule. The maint req light will blink for 500 miles when u start the car reminding you service is coming up then when its time it will stay solid.

actually press and keep pressing the reset button while turning on the ignition and it should go to zero.

Do you have a separate check engine light? If not it could always be a problem with the car... I'd check the codes.

So nobody elses 2005 Corolla has a "maintenance required" light that comes on everytime it needs an oil chance or some general maintenance? Does anyone know if the Corolla shares that light with engine repair needed? I attache dmy OBDII reader and it had no codes.

I tried the suggestions above and the light remains on. ANYONE else with a suggestion? THANKS!

all corollas as far as I know have seperate main req lights and check engine lights, and I have a 2005 corolla s and all that light means is to change the oil, now if you have already here I will copy the procedure from my owners manual:

1. Turn the ignition key to "OFF" position with the odometer reading shown (ODO).

2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position while holding down the trip meter reset knob.

Hold down the button for at least 5 seconds. The odometer indicates "000000" and the light goes off.

This is found on p.114 of the owners manual, let me know if this helped.
