I'm a new Toyota driver. I purchased a 2006 Corolla S this past Monday(Memorial Day) and I was wonder how much I paid for my car compares to what others paid.
I paid $20,232 (including the protection package I got for $499). The options included were all weather guard package, anti lock brack system, moonroof, side curtain airbags, and the extra value package #1.
Then I traded in my '95 Infiniti G20 -clean title-103K miles for $600
After a thousand dollars in state taxes, dealer's business license tax, etc it came to $21,187 minus the $600 previously mentioned and $500 for the Toyota incentives for the month of may....so the total came to $20,087.
I kept thinking it would be closer to $18K, but I'm really not sure.
edit: I forgot to mention that both the Infiniti and Toyota are/were automatic.

I dunno, but since you bought it already, no sense in double thinking about it.
Lol...I think the time for finding out what others paid for their cars would be before you bought yours ...I think that's a little steep, I paid $18,100 total for my 03 without the extended warranty but with all your same features and no trade in...My suggestion to you as an afterthought would have been to wait a few months till the new models came out and you probably would have paid the same $$$ for an 07 or got a great deal on a 06 when they are trying to reduce their inventories to make room for the 07's...just my opinion...
~Radd~
1) I paid less than that for my XRS, fully loaded (sunroof, floormats, $200 pinstripe, etc)
2) I would have given you more than $600 for your old car
3) Methinks you overpaid.
Nonetheless, Welcome to TN and enjoy your new car.
wahhhhhhhhh thats a lot of money paid. 2006 LE, cd changer, power package, automatic, keyless entery with basic sec. system, variable wipers- around 14500, 01 neon trade in 5 speed- 2500 bucks, 2000 down, dealer fees, taxes, etc came too around 14500.. you paid way too much.. but welcome to TN..
PS. I know northern cars are a lil bit more expensive then down here in the south, but you still paid too much

I appreciate all the feedback. I am very happy with my choice, so I have tried not to let the final price ruin the excite of buying my first new car(the Infiniti was my first car), but it definitely was a learning experience. What made it difficult in negotiating the price was that I was told by the salesperson that another buyer was interested in the same vehicle so we(my girlfriend and I) rushed back to fill out the paper work. They told me I only beat out the other buyer by 4 minutes! I just didn't think about it thoroughly enough as we were filling out the paper work. The excite of purchasing a car after 500+ hrs of research/searching online(autotrader, cars. com, ebay, carfax..) and dozen trips to dealerships going as far back 8 weeks ago...it was just a relief to finally be getting a car and then an afterthought price wise
Again, thanks for the comments. I'm sure I will get alot of good feedback here and I'm happy to be apart of the Toyota family.

Thats really the oldest trick in the book. "This other guy is also interested in this, but if you take thecar now, I'll sell it to you for XXXX, despite the other buyer" goes like that basically.
Well don't beat yourself up... Dealing with the stealerships is a learning process...
My first vehicle purchase was a 92 Toyota corolla 10 years ago...
I was 20 years old and just walked into the dealership totally unprepared on a Friday night...
All I ever asked about was the monthly payment... I don't believe I even inquired about the total $$ amount of the vehicle...
I think a few months after the fact I went through the paperwork and finally realized what I had paid for it... While not a total rip I'm sure I could have gotten them to come down several thousand...
For the Next purchase a Dodge Truck I went in with blue book numbers in hard and I knew what I was willing to pay... I tried to get them to come down $500 below their advertised price (which was at blue book) but no go... I should have walked out...
They kept me waiting for hours playing the games... Then I got it in the end and purchased an extended maintenance contact That was a waste...
Next Came Our 2004 Sienna... I did months of research on that one... I emailed every dealer in the entire state with only question Here is what I want... What is your total out the door price... The responses I received were hilarious!
But a few did come back with a good deal... Since this was a new purchase it made things easier... After checking out the Van, test driving it... I spent a mere 15 minutes in the dealership signing the final paperwork... That was by far the fastest and easiest deal... However I too got it on my trade in...
For my newest car an 02 corolla I think I did alright.. I paid somewhere between dealer trade and Person to Person sale... I wanted to get it lower but you have to take into account your time as well... Sure I can sit and go back and forth a dozen times with the dealer... but I would be there all day... This time I choose to sell my truck myself vs trading it in... I got several thousand more then what any dealer would give me and it took like 2 - 3 weeks to sell it...
So I guess in the end... Don't beat yourself up over the price... If you have a vehicle you like be happy with it... Lean from your experience for the next time.... stearlerships are the worst... Imagine if we had to purchase all our goods like that... You roll your grocery cart upto the checkout and at the end, the manager comes out "Lets talk about payments..."

Yah, and alot of people wont realise that if you wait a couple of weeks, you can get the same package at the lower cost delivered from the factory. The other 'interested' buyers can have their demo model. Thats how i see it anyway..

I suggest for next time, get a price in writing via email before you even go to the lot. I did this on Friday the same time you did in Maryland. I got an S without the moonroof, side airbags or ABS (did include the value package1) for $16,300 including everything (taxes, tags, out the door).

Sorry but it seems you got screwed ..
Kelley Blue trade value on a '95 G20 and I priced it without extra options you may have had.
Base model automatic with 103K miles.
