1989 Corolla SR5 4AF has 305,000 Miles. and everything needs replaced, it's falling apart..
note: engine still has excellent compression, and has had one clutch replacement, a couple timing belts, one carb rebuild, and brakes (front brake) wear out way to fast, they are crap,, buiilt way to small for the car's weight., it always needs front brakes...
well my 86 now has 286.000km its a 4a but still same engine family.... just did timing belt at 285.000 ... still running strong . n able to out run logging trucks ....
230,000km on my 4A-FE before it blew. 85,000km on my 20v and running like a dog. ECU, Injector, AFM and Knock Sensor troubles. As well as an Exaust leak BEFORE the O2 sensor. $1.5k to fix it

My 90 Corolla has 556,456 km on it (Original Engine). Still runs good, desperately needs a major tune-up and a throttle body cause the one i have is kinda damaged.

my 90 4 door 4afe has 220k miles on it as of today. the motor blew the head gasket at 199,991k miles and still got me back and forth to work for a week! the auto tranny is absoluetly amazing though, it has leaked more and more for 70k miles. its up to a full quart in a week. my land lord isnt happy but i tell him its a detergent so im doing him a favor and cleaning the 200 year old driveway! i have a newer one sitting in my shop but have not looked into it enough to actually swap it.
our old cars seem to put up with alot of crap and abuse. I have drivin it hard since I got it in august, only 23,000 km but my dad seems impressed that it's lasted... He used to get mad when I first got it telling me "it's old you can't drive it hard it will break."... and now he can't understand why I want to upgrade area's of the car and why I want to spend so much money on it just because it's an old car.
The stuff thats wrong with my engine isn't such a big deal. Could use some valve terrain work but doesn't HAVE to be done since it runs well. Leaks oil fron the valve cover, once I get a job again it's an easy fix. Only think engine wise I have replaced since I got it was the thermostat because the seal started leaking. We convince them to put a new rad in and new front brakes.
but as it goes we have the type of car where the engines run fine for the most part but the body's are prone to rust.
my corolla original 4AFE: 490,000km had no big issues but just taken a safe way and i swaped in another newer lower km 4AFE in it...
my current 4AFE: is getting close to 100,000km...
on my 95 both 4AFE engines(original and current) runs great no major problem never had big issues... my only problem on my 95 corolla is just the stupid bearing on the left drive shaft its f-ck... again... i drove over more pot holes on right side then the left and the right drive shaft bearin never had a problem...
