Oil leaking from drainplug... why/how to fix?

Like the topic states... I have an oil leak from the drainplug. I just did an oil change this afternoon, and it started after that. This was not a problem before. The plug didn't seem to be overtightened, and it certainly didn't seem loose. Why is this happening? How can I fix it?

It is a 1997 Corolla with the 1.6l.

Thanks.

Exclamation

yeah, don't strip it, I had my oil pan replaced because of the oil plug threads bad and it was $300.00 to be replaced by the dealer. I had no choice, it had to be done fast!

I don't think the threads are stripped. I never saw a gasket... but that could be the problem. Is it just like a washer?

Most I've seen are white plastic/teflon thick washer and should be available at parts stores cheap. Often come in a package of 4-6 for a couple of bucks. They tend to crack and harden with age and heat so they need to be replaced once in a while anyway. Heard some do it every oil change. (I don't)

yea they use copper for break lines, but does it need a texture to squeeze to for it to seal?

There is an option to use bonded sealing washer, with 12 mm dia hole.It is basically a steel washer with rubber o-ring bonded to the inner diameter. The rubber compresses upon tightening, seals the surface imperfections, but cannot be crushed because of the steel washer. It can be reused few times. Seems to work great.
