slapping noise?

I have a 98 LE corolla with 104K miles and change, today I noticed whenever I hit bumps on the driver side wheel I hear an obvious slapping noise, kind of like the sound of rocks bouncing around in a hubcap (except thats not the case here). I also have noticed in the last few hundred miles a light humming sound from the same area.... My guess is the humming is a wheel bearing as I can feel it on the floor as well. but would the slapping noise at all be related to the humming? Or would this be a ball joint?

If you can feel the vibration of the wheel bearing through the floor driving the car is not a good idea, fix the wheel bearing ASAP.

The other sound is most probably realated though without hearing it its really hard to say.
