hey everyone im a honda guy turned drifter-wannabe...so my question is that i want to start an ae86 project. i have 6k cash right now and make roughthly 400 a week...yes not much...im only a college student so i plan to make it a hobby for my years in college...but i wanted to know if you guys would recommend me buy a junky rolla and fix that up or buy a more decent one...which ofcourse is so very rare to come across here in the midwest...but a price quote on fixing it to be reliable first would also be nice...thanks
- the car is too expensive right now because of... well people like you, hehehehe.
- the parts are getting rarer coz there's tons of Takumi wannabes who wrap their cars on the pole so they buy the parts so often.
- most affordable AE86 are in the $1500-2000 but you still need a lot to make it decent.
- as a student, STUDY hard and then get a kick-ass S15 afterwards. stay away from old Toyotas.. really!

haha.. couldn't have said it better myself, but hey.. if you like old rust buckets that will put you $10,000 in the hole just to make it look decent... go for it!
I second them two wise men. A friend of mine bought a junky AE86 after watching initial D 2 years ago and he's still spending money to restore it.
If you wanna go into the drifting thing, get yourself a clean nice 240sx and go nuts. That's what I plan to do.

I thought rust was mother natures way of removing weight? Sorry guys but one day I plan on having an AE86 myself but not for drifting, more like a drag car. It will not be 1.6L powered.
Don't underestimate the power of rust though.. even the 240s are rustbuckets.
True but there is no denying that there are virtually rustless 240s are widely more available than mint AE86s. Not to mention that they're also cheaper, but sexier

wow good luck and yeah as all say its getting to hard to find one.. i got my cars for a decent price both ae86 and you start to run into lilttle things that need work.. so far both cars would get painted but theirs just to much areas to work on. now a days their so expensive due to many people want to be dirfters and going rwd... yeah yeah i know you might be thinking you kid were the same, but i started hang out with firends 5 yeras ago who watch initial d and then 3 years ago i actually experience when my friend was driving his car turning on a street as he downshifted follow by kicking the clutch as he got into teh corner... anywho good luck with what ever you do... but if you planning to drive that in the snow.. well make sure you have a daily driver like my ae92.... so good to me.... yeah toyotas take a real good beating... thats why they deserve some love
hrmmm...an expensive project u say...i do hate losing money...and i did think about buying a 240...but that classic hatchi is soo tempting...keep the feedbacks coming!!
Looking for body panels are a big pain. Searching is not giving us much options either.
Someone in the past have mentioned about some aftermarket company making body panels. I hope that person could chime in.
i have an ae 92 and TE71 respectively,, i still feel incomplete with out an 86, id say go for it and be prepared.. im starting to prepare myself right now, in case i come across an 86
