Wierd

Hello everybody. I have a 2005 Corolla. Today my car did something very strange. I was going down a hill that I go down everyday. The hill is very high and steep to the point that your ears pop. Well I was going down the hill at a speed of approx 70 mph and I had my foot on the brakes. All of a sudden my cars RPM shot up to 5000 rpm and slowly went back down. It was very odd. It was as if the transmision had slipped but the problem is I wasn't giving any gas at the time. My foot was on the brakes. The only thing I can think of is that It all of a sudden downshifted to a gear that was to low. Has anybody ever heard of this? I hope I'm not already having tranny problems with a car so young. It already has 34,000 miles on it. Anybody have any ideas?

Sorry I can't help you with your issue but I find it quite funny that you and the others on the bottom of the page Similar Threads all spelled weird wrong.
I'm not great at spelling either.

yes my guess is it shifted to a lower gear. Have you tried taking O/D off or shift to 2nd gear? save your brakes dude. 50/50 engine braking and foot on brake pedal

Agreed. Downshift and Engine brake when you need to stop accelerating for extend periods of time. Riding the brake is unnecessary and bad for your brakes.

I hope we are all right. It is still very odd. I've just never seen an automatic tranny do that before. One thing I did forget to mention is that my A.C was on but that still doesn't excuse the engine from going up to an RPM that high. It was just very strange.
