Canada New Corolla 07?......08?

Hi everyone new here. Been reading the posts for about a month and helped me decide on the purchase of my wife's 06 Corolla...but, reading the forums on the new Corolla I am wondering....I would love to get an 07 Corolla S in April of 07 but understand that the current model will be replaced soon. When they stop making the current body style?...or how long can I wait until buying an 07 to be sure I still get one? The new body style is stated as an 08 and goes into production in January 08? Does that mean there is a 6 month retooling time and the current body style stay's in production until June 07? I really like the current body style and am wondering if I should buy one in late 06 or could I wait until after winter and get the 07 (same body as the 06)?

Help!!!!!

The 10th generation will be out in summer of 2007 as a 2008 model. The 2007 Corolla will be identical to 2006 except the fact that XRS model has been discontinued from this year onwards.

So you are saying that the current body style will be available in the spring of 07? If the new model is to be introduced in the Summer of 07, with a 6 month tooling changeover that would mean the current platform will stop being produced in December of 06...which goes against what most are saying on these forums.

If I understand correctly, the current platform will stay in production until the spring\summer of 07 and then will be retooled for a Dec07\Jan08 production start up, meaning that the new 08's will be in dealers showroom in the spring of 08. The reason for all this is that in April of 07 I will be in a position financially to purchase a 07 S and am hoping that they will be available.

Thanks....

Yes that is correct. The 10th generation will be out in late summer or fall of 2007 as a 2008 model.

All they are going to do is slap a different vin number on the cars built in 06 and slap a 07 vin number on it as they did with the 05-06's(same car different vin) and will probably stop production by years end if not sooner...With the inventory running down you might not get a car that would match all of the features you want but as their trying to reduce inventories to make room for the 08's you should be able to get some great deals on the remaining models...Anyone got any pictures of the tenth generation corollas?

I don't think I've seen any pics yet.. hope it doesn't look like the Yaris..

BTW where does it say they're discontinuing the XRS?? I heard there might be a bigger motor coming out for the Corolla.. 200hp or so.

Yamaha 2ZZ-GE engine is going out of production this year so no XRSs in 2007 model year. As for the 10th gen having a 200 hp performance oriented Corolla, rumors are only good as the source is. Even if it were true, I would like to hear how much it will weigh before I make conclusions.

OK so I visited 2 Toyota dealerships yesterday and both had diffrent answers to when the new car will be out....but (info if anyone is interested) they both told me that the new car will not be in dealerships in the spring or summer of 07, and one stated that even the fall was a long shot...and that more than likely they will be seen in the spring of 08. They can barely keep the existing car in stock, and sales have been very strong, so they feel (Toyota) that 6 months will not make a diffrence and that people will wiat for a good product. So when I mentioned the availablility of an 07 S and that if I will have trouble getting one in the spring of 07, both dealerships told me "no problem" that it will be available. Of course then they tried to sell me a 06 Corolla and stated that they didn't know how much longer they would be available!!!!!!!

so what about the Matrix XRS, Vibe GT, and Elise/Exige. Does this mean the end of the road for the Matrix XRS and Vibe GT as well? Will there still be some for the Elise and Exige, or will they get a different Toyota engine, or will they be forced (sadly) into getting an engine from a different manufacturer?

Don't quote me on this, but I think, with the big success of the new Elise, Toyota is contractually bound to provide 2ZZ-GE to Lotus for the next 2 years or so. My guess is that Toyota has built the quota of 2ZZs for Lotus that they would supply to Lotus over the two years. In my opinion, use of the 2ZZ GE in Toyota products and Vibe GT will be the only one's that will come to an end this year.
