04 Corolla makes a wierd sound

I have a 2004 Corolla with a 5 speed. If you go to neutral and rev the engine it make a high pictch kind of pinging sound. When you are excellaring thru the gears you also hear the sound. I dont normally hear it at 60 - 70 miles per hr in 5th gear. Also, there are no engine lights on. So I am not sure. Any ideas from anyone.

Thanks STeve

What kind of gas are you running? How many miles? How often and who does your maintenance?

72K miles. I do oil change every 7500 miles. That is what book says for highway travelling and not towing anything. Oil changes done by Jiffy lube. Major service by Toyaota. Have you ever heard of this problem before ????

No, I never have. Sounds like your hearing valve train noise or something. Take it by an import shop and see if they'll come out in their driveway and give you an idea what the problem may be.

what type of oil are you using? Toyota recommends an oil change every 8000km or 5000miles.

It could be just engine knock, try a better grade fuel and see if it helps.

depends on how full the tank is with regular, if you run it right down then fill it up with premium I would give it a couple days depending how far you drive.

Sounds just like an Engine Ping or Knock. Not too much to worry about i'd say, but try a higher octane fuel and see if that helps. If not, let us know...
