Well, Just seen the movie and without saying too much to spoil it for others it was not half bad for a movie seeming sponsored by Nissan?? Only the quick mention of an AE86.
I liked the car chase/drift seens, which was real the only reason to me to see this movie.
I am not very knowledgeable about drifting (Except for this one time in the snow and it was completely unintentional). Is it really that hard to do? and especially for an AWD like an EVO??
I wonder if this will help the development of newer RWD cars to be built??
yeah that's what I heard, no AE86, kinda depressing in a way.
Drifting requires some skill and the right car. R&T Speed (a sister magazine to R&T, now out of print) drifted 8 different cars. Apparently, a good car for drifting needs to have a solid, torquey engine, no revs-only-at-the-top powerband but also no-tons-of-power-on-big-rear-wheels, good suspension, and good weight distribution. and of course RWD
They experienced good results in the GTO, 350Z, M3 (might've been a 330ci, don't remember right now), and a 911 (a bit surprising).
However, these were no good: NSX, MX-5, Viper
Mustang GT also tested, don't remember
WRX Sti, EVO 8/9, RX-8, Corvette weren't tested. but WRX Sti and EVO are 4WD, not really drifters.
and of course, for old cars, the AE86 and such are good
if u watch the movie and pay attention to wuts goin around... when they r racin/driftin in the parkin lot... there was 2 shots of a ae86 parked in the background. its quite hard to miss... since the corolla was the only car thats NOT driftin in the 2 shots... lol ITS GRAY
i got in for free on the last 30mins, it was better then the other 2, its funny that keiichi tsuchiya made a apprence in the movie. the story seemed to be alot better then the last 2.
