FX16/AE82 LSD Tranny

I know that the C-52 tranny in my fx16 does not have a LSD and I'm looking at fixing that. Buying a new diff and having it installed costs a heck of a lot. Does anyone know of any FWD manual transmissions that came with a factory LSD and can also be swapped directly with my C-52? I think I've heard of some AE101's and AE111's that came with them. If anyone has a front clip from one of those they used for a RWD 20v conversion and has a tranny just sittin around that would be even better (because I will buy it from you). Also if you do know which transmissions can just bolt straight in, if you know model numbers or whatever for them that would be great so that I can make sure I buy the right one. Thanks a bunch!

There are 3 that i can think of that came with the factory LSD. I'll put them in order of rarity of the LSD Present in the box...

1. c160 (6-speed out of a 20v) I THINK all of these had an LSD, but the box itself is rareish.
2. c56 (5-speed on later ST's and all BT's) any Levin BZ-R I believe had these with LSD.
3. c52. These are Extremely rare to find with an LSD.

The way to look for them is if the half-shafts are removed, look thru the hole - if there is a hex bar present, then no factory LSD, if you can see straight thru, thn chances are pretty good it has an LSD..

Hope this helps.

**EDIT** All three of these will bolt directly onto the FX, as they are a c series box.

If I'm not mistaken the C52 and the C56s had "optional" LSD's, which means if you find one its like finding a needle in haystack.

^^ Yah. Thats why i did say that i put them in Rarity of the LSD Present in the box.

You would be very lucky to find a 5 speed box with an LSD on them...

Why not do the LSD install yourself? The transmision treardown is very straight foreward even for a first timer. As long as you have a good (as in factory) manual. The first LSD I installed was in my FX16's C52. I purchased the Kaaz LSD for about $800, sounds a bit expesive but its new and the quality is superb. Plus while you have it open you could also replaced the 3rd gear assy. as Toyota superseeded to a much better design. I say do the teardown yourself

It bolts on to an AE92 BUT you have to modify the shifter to accept the cable I believe. I assume it would be the same with the AE82s. You'd be better off with a 5spd as the 6spd are not as strong from what I've read.

ok so say I decide to stick with my current c52 and do the LSD install myself. anyone know what kind/how much of work that entails? It's no big deal if my car is down for a bit while I tinker with it, but i'd like to hear from someone who knows how long the project took and what specific unforseen complications there were (as there are always unforseen complications).
