Unhappy Ignition Barrel Fault - need help urgently !

Hope somebody can help me. The ignition barrel on my 1999 Corolla turns ok and ignition lights on dashboard lights up ok, however the last part of the turn of the key which engages the starter/solenoid does not work (did intermittantly, but has now stopped).
I have purchased a red starter button from Maplins Electronics & what to by-pass the ignition barrel but do not know which colour wires are needed to connect to the switch.

I want to do this so I can turn on the ignition, then press the button to start the car.

Any help would be really helpfull.

Thanks

From what I can tell, the starter motor wire is pin 8 on the plug that attaches to the ignition key. If you look at the plug head on with the indexing slots on top. Pin 8 is the lower left corner pin. The wire should be Black/White.

The ignition barrel can be replaced without taking the switch out of the car. Perhaps the electrical portion of the switch can also.

use one side of the switch and I would connect it to ignition wire and the other to the starter side of starter wire.
