Recommended Oil?

Are there any particular oils (eg. synthetics) recommended for 1998 Corolla VE with over 100, 000 miles?

That's probably too thick for north america though. 5W30 or 10W30 would do.

I am putting Supertech Full Synthetic from good old Walmart. $12 for 5 quarts! I did alot of reading on it on the web, it should be good for atleast 7500 miles and cheap too. It is hydrocracked III synth so not as good as Mobile 1, but much better than conventional oil.

On my newer Camry I am going to run Mobile 1 Extended because it is a nicer, newer, more valuable car. Both will run 5-30 year round.

..and I live in finland... its really not too thick, as its the hot viscosity, it would perform as good as 5W-30, but you could use it in even hotter, 10W30 would be thicker than 5W-50 when cold, but 5W-50 would surpass it when hot, whilst the 10W30 would be water, the 5W-50 wouldnt, theoretically atleast.

However, 10W-30 would already be turning into grease in -18C temp, when 5W would be useable in even colder temps. So unless you plan on changíng oils again before winter, stick to 5W.

So let me get this straight, you can actually change the different types of oil per season? Or you should stick with one?

From what I'm reading, it sounds like I can use 10W-30 on my '99 Corolla (manual says 5W-30) during the summers, and back to 5W-30 during the winters?

Yes.. you got it dude! as far as I know 10W30 is better in the summer as its thicker therefore won't heat up as fast. 5W30 is a little bit thinner and better in the winter as it will heat up faster than 10W30 and will work better at colder temps.

As far as I know in North America, Toyota recommends 5W30 for all year round; the dealer where I go to get my oil change charges more if I want 10W30 in my car. Also from what I have read its better for an older motor to have 10W30 in it for the summer as it won't sip thru the seals as easy as 5W30 would.

Hey Ren69, if 10W30 is thicker, wouldn't this lower the performance? Cause the car is already slow enough when the A/C is on...
