The bottom trim piece should just pull off with a couple of clamps on the bottom. There's a couple pieces holding it mostly in, but you can get it loose enough to work with. Just pull straight back. You might be able to reach up and under, or you could pull the top bit off. All you need to remove to get the top piece off is the knobs on the climate controls, and those just pull straight off and push straight on. Pretty easy. As far as stealthing wires, when I was under there last I noticed a lot of wires were being run from there up underneath the glovebox (above the passenger-side foot space, actually inside/behind the glovebox itself, tucked away atop that molding) and down behind the carpet and under the plastic doorsills. I've seen a couple junked Corollas with big sub wire under the sills, so it's been done that way before.

Best of luck.

On the lower trim piece you have to remove the ashtray and there 2 screws to remove that are on the top of the lower piecel! Once those are unscrewed you can pull it out and there are 2 connections to remove(Lighter and Ashtray light)

The upper piece you need to remove the knobs on the climate controls and it just pulls out and then there are a few connections to undo(Defroster, Hazard lights, and Clock connections) once those are unplugged you can set it aside.

I just installed my new headunit so I remember pretty well I hope this helps!
