Crazy Swap

hey there yall! anyways i had a classic se-r, but lately too many friends that are converts of HoMo to Nismo are driving these and are now "firm believer" of the sr20 powerplant, are annoyin me cuz they all believe they found this vehicle when ive been blabberin about it for 6 years. anyways this is where im getting to my point. I wonder if there has ever been crazy hybrid swap done on any corollas besides the ae86. i have a 90 corolla and ive been crazily thinking about a sr20de swap (not sr20det, although it might sounds cooler). sounds foolish? i dunno but the sr20de will do the h*i*ll out of any toy engines IMO. but give me your opinion if i should try to get custom motor mounts or im just wasting my time. Oh and i really dont care what ya say cuz i love Nissans & Toyotas.

Why would you want an SR20DE when you can drop a 20V 4AGE and fair a little better?

On the same topic, why would you go with an SR20DET when you can drop a 3SGTE into the Corolla with less trouble. Even a 4AGZE would be a much better swap into a Corolla than an SR, less problems to worry about.

here's a better comparison...

SR20DE = 3SGE
SR20DET = 3SGTE
RB26DETT = 2JZGTE

either way both good powerplants and both capable of massive hp. goodluck!!!

Get the SR20DET from a FWD bluebird/sunny GTiR and it'll be alot easier...Most likely you'll need a front cut so you can use the hubs and driveshafts of the nissan.

because like i stated that i believe an SR has more potential than the 4a, but no disrepectin to any toy though that just my own opinion. i know that any 4a can do and will do, but im in that stage where thinking wants to become a reality. thanks for your guys opinion. & Flashmn that was what i was trying to do. NOT DET(FR) just a DE (FF).

DET can be FR and FF, DE also... DET has more potential than a DE, though you can get about 230hp out of a DE with mods.

I say do the turbo engine, If your going to do a swap to a car from a diff engine company might as well get the best you can get. Nothing is going to bolt right up so might as well make it worth while. Plus turbo rollas are the shit.

3S turbo or non. If you want a sr20 just get a G20, way more pimp than either a sentra or corolla. Mini VIP.

Why don't you save that money you'd waste making an ugly car slightly faster and buy an actual sports car? Seriously a few grand is a down payment on a Supra, Z car of any year, miata, RX-7, or pretty much any FWD car. From what I remember the 90 corollas are pretty hideous, and not in a cool way. Instead of trying to turn your car into something its not why not get a sportier car in the first place, and keep the corolla for a beater......

Coming from a XRS owner, those are some pretty tough words...
If I was in the USA, I'd race you and hand you your ass.

Dude I was not saying my car is faster, just saying that most old junkers that become project cars usually stay old junkers, just cost more and more money. If you can tell me what is so cool about a 90 corolla please go ahead, but judging by your "My car is faster than your car" answer I doubt I'll get anything productive.

Since you brought my XRS into it....The XRS is no sports car, that is why I'm not wasting anymore money on performance parts for it. It is a fun 4 banger/ 4 door/ 6spd that handles well and gets up and goes when I want to for fun. It is faster and handles better than anything in its class (aside from the SRT-4 or Cobalt SS which are fast pieces of junk that won't last more than a few years so I don't count them) and is dirt cheap on insurance. It is in no way shape or form a racing car. The reason I would never do an engine swap or turbo upgrade on my corolla is because it is a fucking corolla, not a racecar. Thanks to that stupid Fast and the Furious movie ricers have come out of the woodwork in America, wasting thousands of dollars on piece of shit cars that are still slow and thinking they are so cool for it.

Of course you could probably beat me you probably spent thousands of dollars resurecting some piece of junk from someone who rightly no longer wanted it. I did not get my meager few performance parts to go race people, I got them to make my car more fun to drive to work and back every day. The only track time I spend is for my own amusement, not to prove myself to e-thugs with something they need to compensate for. If you are proud of your car great, that is what matters. But don't throw a fit because someone with an XRS thinks that a 15 year old econojunker is not worth investing a few grand into.

Go watch the fast and the furious some more....

Well said man, well said, some of us have no interest in fixing up new cars because for 1 they have a warrenty and 2 they are expensive on everything and 3 your warrenties void if swap a god damn sr20det in a brand new corolla 4 door, and some people like sleepers.

Me for example I don't really have any interest in new cars because it costs loads to buy the car then costs loads for any parts aftermarket or factory, no thanks.

all you guys in here owns toyotas, so quit disrespecting toyotas, not everyone in here are rich and afford a brand new car, so we're doing as best as we can with what we got

as for the nismo guy, welcome to tn, save up and drop a 2jzgte engine in, crazy top end, or 2jzge if you dont wanna go turbo, this is the engine from the mk4 supra in case you're wondering and will give your sr20det a run on the highway, why not stick to the toyota family and put a toyota engine in there eh?

tell us about your se-r, quarter mile? mods?

Mate, You need to understand that looks and what makes a car 'a piece of junk is subjective'. I think some of the Great american Muscle cars are ugly an pieces of junk like the Stang, Camero and GTO. But i dont go around telling people they shouldnt spend thier money on upgrading, modifiying and beuitifying their cars.

And what is this about People who 'Rightly no longer wanted it'? What makes you so high and mighty that you can say that?

We like to modify Older cars, and Older Corollas. Why you may ask? For me it is becase I like the challenge, i like to be different and i Love the car.

So please - Leave your opinions and bashing at the door, and leave us be. We like what we are working on and we have nothing to prove.

On topic: My vote goes to the 3S-GTE.
