Painting Coil Springs

I'm replacing the coil springs on my FX16 today and I was wondering if anyone has experience with painting them. I bought OEM replacement because I would rather sacrifice a bit on handling to maintain my OEM comfortable ride, but I'd like them to look nice too. Any suggestions from someone who has done it?

Paint will flake off, if you want them to look good, powdercoat them.

It will be somewhat expensive, I would rather just leave them alone.
