ae92 engine ignition problems

I'm having a problem with my car and i think its coming from the ignitor. when the car warms up it starts to die and the idle bounces around and it'll die out and not start up again. i'll check my coil and i won't be getting any spark from it. I've changed the coil, wires and distributor and still the same problem.

is there a way to test the ignitor? also what ignitors can i use from other toyotas on my 88 corolla GTS 4age? thanx

You can use an MSD 6A PN 6200 or import/sport compact series PN 6300 ignition system to replace the ignitor. The SCI ignition system is more for higher reving compact engines and thus can
supply spark all the way to 10,000. BUt the 6A is just as good and
cheaper.

They were cheaper than buying a new igniter from Toyota and you get the benefit of an improved ignition system. I do not know the current prices from Toyota but were around $600 for
an igniter in the last century.

Lazyedwin has an MSD ignition system on 1990 GTS, not sure which PN it was, but I recall seeing it in his car. It left me wondering if it was only for 90-91 hi-comp 4age, or if it would also fit the 88-89 4age. I guess it's pretty much a broad application.

well i don't want to go with an MSD since i just recently took mines out of that car, i was tired of it's uselessness taking up space in my engine bay.

What i'm looking for is another toyota car i could rip the ignitor off of and stick in my car or a way to test the ignitor without some special service tool or something. or if its another problem someone could identify.

Thanx for the suggestion guys.
