90 corolla hesitates in rain -- still

My 1990 Corolla wagon has troubles only in wet weather. A few times I have had trouble starting, but the usual symptom is hesitating or stalling after about 5 minutes of driving. Once warmed up or in dry weather I have no problems. Gas mileage is good and the car generally runs well.

I have recently replaced the alternator and the distributor cap (with OEM part) but neither had any impact on this problem.

I would love to hear suggestions on how to diagnose this.

There is supposed to be a rubber seal between the cap and distributor. Check and make sure it is not missing, damaged, or improperly installed. If it is, you are most likely getting moisture/humidity inside the distributor. This may very well be the cause of the hestitation in the rain.

If you need one let me know. We keep them in stock.

Seems to me like your distributor might be getting damp or wet.Check that the seal between the cap and the distributor is sound.

Yah my SR5 does this all the time in the rain... but that's because the rain goes in the scoop and drowns the motor lol

Course, mine doesn't just hesitate when it gets wet, it pops bucks and stalls out. Fun!

Its your distributor cap, its either cracked or loose and moisture gets in it ONLY when it rains. If not, I bet one of the wires is not grounding properly try the wires next.
