Question Is my clutch going?

Hey guys!

new to the manual transmission. got a quick question...let's say i'm in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd (the lower the gear the greater the effects) and at about 2000-3000rpm. i quickly stab and release the gas, the car will then start jerking.

what's going on? clutch slipping?

Thanks!

What speed are you moving? Any standard shift vehicle will do that if you are moving too slowly for the gear you are in, and the engine will probably die. If you haven't driven a stick before, maybe you should ask a friend for some pointers.

you will know that you clutch is slipping or going when you are on the gas...car revs up but its not moving...seems like what you are doing should cause the sputtering once you are off the gas....

well, it is very noticable at slow speeds, but this still occurs at 2nd gear 2000-3000rpm? so 30-40kph? i believe?

i've driven stick before and didnt really notice this in those cars....maybe because i've only driven for like 10mins at a time

but according to MRQturbo i guess my clutch is not going out

My 91 wagon is a stick, and it happened to me when I first drove it....At abouut 3000 RPM's im 2nd gear, if i just stab the throttle, the car will jerk a coupe times, then take off. Its the way you are pressing the gas in those gears, and how high the RPM's are. If the Engine speed is high already, and you are in a low gear like that, the car will jerk. If your clutch was going out, or slipping, the car will not move, but the engine will scream. Its the way yo are driving. When i started I always did that, but once i got the hang of stick, i sometimes do it, but not as much as when i started out.

Haha, I just started like a few months ago, but im still rusty, and i need to learn alot more. I lose myself at times, and I cant even pull off a decent speed shift.

Are you talking about a sort of lurch? I know in first gear with an fe, it lurchs forward a bit when you let off the gas quickly after reaching about 3500 rpm, but this is pretty much true if you downshift into a lower gear from any gear and just let off the gas, espically within the cars powerband. I guess I don't know what you are really talking about, but just trying to give some insight. I don't even think about shifting anymore. I would say its most likely driver, I certainly wasn't any good for the first 6 months.
