Question 2005 Corolla S Tire Size

I would like to change from the stock tire size of 195/65/15 to a BF Goodrich G Sport 225/50/15. One local tire dealer said this would be no problem. Another local dealer as well as the BF Goodrich site claim modifications to the vehicle are necessary in order for this tire to fit properly. That sounds crazy to me. Anyone have experience with tire size issue? Thanks.

Going with a tire that wide may cause some rubbing issues. You will be adding about 15mm (approx .6 inches) of width to the inside and outside of the tire. You will want to measure your current clearance on the inside of the tire for starters. If that is ok I suspect you will want to roll the fender lip to prevent any rubbing there.

Since the profile of the tire is lower, your speedometer will read higher than actual...

^^^ Good catch. a 225/55/15 will be much closer in size, but still a little smaller, to the original. 50 series puts your speedo about 4.5% off and the 55 series puts you just under 1% off. This also means your odometer will go up quicker and warranty will run out sooner.

you're going too wide for the vehicle and like it was said you might rub the inner/outer fenders. 205/60-15 sounds like a better choice to me.

Here, go play with the tire size calculator.
