Subwoofer q?

SO I got a Legacy LN60 so I could use my subs on my stock HU for the time being. But now I can hear the engine idle coming from the subwoofer. Plus when I turn my lights on and such I got a loud thump from my subs... Is there something I did wrong? Something I should look for?

Which wires did you tap into? sounds like you're getting engine noise and alternator feedback.

I used the two front speakers, the LN60 said to use a right and left speaker, and it didnt matter which ones, I just cut the tires, stripped all threee of them, tied them together and wrapped them in electrical tape.

Sounds like a bad ground somewhere. Try using its own ground into a bolt somewhere on the chassis. Your last resort is go to an automotive shop and see if you can find a sound filter or signal filter.

There was no ground on the Legacy LN60. I just pushed it in with the headunit and slide it down into its own spot behind the glove box. But Im going to check the amp for a bad ground, because I just used an existing ground for the CD changer in the trunk... My guess is that might be the culprit. Probably need something with a little bit better connectivity...

Give that a try.. usually an amp needs to be grounded to the chassis, not to an existing ground. Find a bolt on the chassis that you can put the ground to and use that instead. You may have to scrape the paint around the bolt a little if the ground doesn't work on the first try, or make sure first that the bolt actually does touch the chassis.

I just installed my amp 2 weeks ago so I'm still in install mode as I had to take it out again last week to fit my stuff in the car to go on vacation, now that I'm back I gotta re-wire the amp and subs again.

ok, I tried regrounding, I went under the insulation to the metal of the car, used some low grit sand paper and went at a spot, got it down to the shiney metal, and drilled a hole and made a nice tight ground... But still have interference... Any other ideas?

One last try before you end up buying a filter, check the ground on the alternator to make sure that its not too old or not grounding properly. Also ask on the Audio/Video forum and see what the other guys suggest.

Ok, sorry, I was gone for a bit so I couldnt update very often... I have some new info. like I said I can hear the engine idle, but only when the lights turn on. I have the parking break on, I start the car, subs are doing nothing, put the parking break down and the lights turn on, as soon as the lights turn on I can hear the engine idle in the subs. Plus, if I turn the music up too loud the sound just quits, until I turn the HU off and back on, then all is good again.

Post it in the Audio/video forum dude.. there's a few other guys more experienced in Audio that would probably answer this, I've never had this problem before, something similar that turned out to be alternator related, but nothing to do with lights.
