Canada Can't get the tires out for rotation

I'm trying to perform tire rotation on '05 Corolla - stick shift car. I jacked up the car and managed to pull the front tires without any problem (like it should be). However, I couldn't get the back tires out. I tried to put the car in neutral, took the car off parking brake - no matter what - back tires are impossible to pull out.

Am I missing something???

Please help...

Generally, you should loosen the lug nuts first, before you jack it up. Don't take the lugs nuts off until the car is jacked up and place on jack stands. I usually have the car in Park, and the parking brake on while I'm loosening the lug nuts, then I hand tighten the lugs back, and then proceed to jack up the car.

For safety reasons, it is recommended to chock the wheels on the end opposite of the end you are jacking, with something like pieces of wood, brick, metal chocks, etc.

Actually - that's exactly what I did. After the car is jacked up and all the nuts are removed - still I'm not able to pull the rear tires.

I'm doing the same and having no problem to pull out the front tires. What am I missing? What is so different to remove the rear tires that the front tires???

Try giving the rear tire a good kick from the side.

My ae86 does the same thing. The front tire are easy to remove, but the rear one need some kicking to remove. I think that it's caused by the rust of the drum brakes (I don't know if your 05 has rust on the drums but usualy get rusted pretty fast) that stick to the mags/rims. A friend of mine told me that it's a good idea to pu some grease between the drum and the mag/rim to prevent this.

It's my 2cents, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Stand with your back to the car and kick the tire - not the wheel - with your heel or the bottom of your foot. Don't use your toes uneless you have boots or want to injure yourself.

Thanks guys... I thought there might be some sort of latch or something for taking the rear tires out. Otherwise - I couldn't explain the fact that both front tires came out easily but the rear ones did not come out even after pulling and kicking and etc etc for 10 minutes....

Gotta love the rear drums when they get rusty and stick to the wheels. Instead of kicking the tires, grab a 2x4 and bang on the tires on both sides until the rust gives, I wouldn't want to kick and then the jack giving up and the car falling on your leg.

hit the TIRE with a hammer from the backside leaving one lugnut on so that they don't fly off. usually happens with stock rims since the holes in the center are the correct size and shit gets in there and bam doesn't come off, happens with disc brakes to ren

what does the parking brake and getting the tire off have to do with each other? It doesn't hold the rim on so it won't hurt to have it on. Just take a large hammer and use the side of it and hit the TIRE untill it comes off. Again leaving 1 lugnut about half way on so that the tire doesn't fly off and come at you or damage anything around you. Common problem with stock rims. I would also suggest cleaning up the center hole in the rim and the arear it touches on the hub might help with next time.

I sometimes have the same problem with my '91. Like you, the problem crops up only on the rear wheels. The wheels snug up real tight against and around the brake drums.

What always works for me is to take the tire wrench and insert the end with the socket into one of the opening holes in the wheel. I press it against the brake drum and kind of wrench it with a quick motion. Doing so acts as a lever and the wheel/tire pops off. Be patient and try it several times. If you've got the car jacked up, be careful not to beat on the wheel or wrench it with so much force that you push the car off the jack. Hope this helps.

or instead of kicking the tires while the car wobbles back and forth on the stands or jack... you can be smart about it

loosen the lugnuts to a little more than 1/2 backed off..... then lower some of the weight of the car back onto the wheels..... the weight will break the wheels away.... lift the car back up and the wheels will come right off

i've done this several times
