1ZZFE Reliable?

I was just wondering how reliable this motor was? How many miles have you racked up with it and what the overall opinion of this motor is? Thanks to all responses.

15K miles 2006 LE 4 speed auto not a single problem yet. I have bounced off rev limiter before also. If you want something that will rev higher the corolla xrs (2zz-ge) redlines at 8500 plus you have lift between 6500-8500 rpm. The 1zz-fe is very preppy though. even on auto.

I have it, year 2002,about 33,000 Km. but mine's manual and non vvti but not much difference in terms of fuel economy compared to the vvti engine. No problem so far but I do baby this engine! I change everything sparks, coolant, tranny oil, brake fluid, fuel filter, air filter, etc strickly by the manual's months or kilometers whichever comes first. For example, I do not wait until the theoretical limit of iridium plugs life span,I change them strickly by the manual, yes eventhough I am using iridium plugs, yes eventhough I am using Redline MT-90 tranny fluids, yes eventhough I am using IGOL Symbol Ceramic Synthetic 5w40 oil,yes eventhough I use MOTUL FULL Synthetic dot 5.1 fluids, yes eventhough I use Redline Synthetic ATF fluid for my power steering fluids.Yes, I do check/diagnose my A/C system once a year.I change the fuel filter every 2 years, as you can see, it's a 2002 car but I only logged in 33,000 km and this september will be my SECOND fuel filter change and flusing my fuel tank. I will be getting a new set of tyres because eventhough the treads are still a plenty, it's been four years for the tires and time to retire them.

Over the top? Maybe, if you take pride in your ride, you gotta pay to play! The engine still purrs!

personally i have heard the early 98-99's have a few problems one of them can be oil consumption... I have been told to get something newer 2000+ to avoid any issues

I have one of the early '98's (built Nov '97 in Cambridge Canada). It has 160,000 km on it and it runs great. No oil consumption problems. Very nice little engine.

To answer your question i would liek to ask you a question. Have you ever seen a corolla broken down on the side of the road?

I've seen lots of different kinds of cars broken down on the side of the road. People are pretty ignorant when it comes to cars. I've seen beautiful cars in parking lots with no tread left on the tires.

I haven't seen any broken down corollas but I've read about a bunch. Some must be breaking down somewhere.

charjenk - I just turned 60k on mine. I had the original v-belt idler replaced under warranty. That fixed a noise problem ... for a while. Then my brother and I replaced it again. But I'm starting to get the noise again. Will be replacing the belt soon. Other than that, I haven't had any problems.

Thanks for the replies. I just hope this little motor holds up. And Amber 60k is still fairly new in my opinion. My warranty won't be over with that mileage. Hopefully it will hold up.

Fuel filter?
Are you talking about the one inside the fuel pump housing, that's inside the gas tank?
