6.5" in a 4" Hole

I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla. Going by what this thread says: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t64414.html
I should be able to put 6.5" speakers in the 4" stock hole. I went out and bought a pair of Polk DB650 speakers today but when I went to put them in, I couldn't.

Depth wise, the speaker fits, but there is a plastic piece that the speaker screws onto that will only fit a 4" speaker (the screw holes are too far in).

If anyone knows of a new plastic piece for 6.5" speakers I can buy, or something I can do to make it fit, I would be very thankful.

I would post this in the audio section. Probably more likely to get an answer there.

I guess you missed the part on that thread where Ukranian102 said....

Cool

I did the same thing, I had to rig them so they bolted into the smaller holes. I dropped them int here and used long skinny bolts, with nuts ont he bottom, where they bolts go through the mounts into the trunk. I them wrapped the base with Foam insulating tape. it looks nice and sounds great. The thick insulating tape is weather insulating tape with shiny silver surface that was made for High low temps and the glue on it really sticks and sealed up the gap betweent he top and bottom niclesly and looks good too. Made them sound proof so the bottom section is sealed so the sound only comes out the top, and not the sides. I aded some new pold speakers to the front dash to replace the crappy Toyota stock speakers. All four sound good. it is not the best, but sounds good enough for me and my wife. I popped a New AM/FM/CD player into the dash and the 4 - Polk speakers sound fine. And only ended up costing about $250 total. I did this several years back. I found the Polk Speakers on eBay for much much less than the stores wanted. I save a bundle.
