Why fuel milage not the same from Full to Half and Half to Empty?

From the Full needle to half tank I get 180 Km. Why can't I get 180km from the half way point to the Empty? I get barely 125 Km from the half way point until the Empty fuel light comes on.

I drive the exact route with almost identical traffic flow, exact time everytime. No traffic jams, the variables are almost identical day in day out. 40 minutes to my work 40 minutes from my work. The same every day. I get about 10 days on full tank.

Guess what fuel gauges aren't very accurate.

Especially if you have an AE102 with the cluster that has a tachometer in it, the full to half is really a lot more than half to empty.

on top of that, its not like both halfs of a gastank are equal.. ever seen a gastank OUT of the car??? it's not equally shaped dude.

but for the size of the lower half of the gas tank you should get the best gas milage. Maybe not so much on a smaller tank like ours. But something like my dad's truck. Filling the 110 liter tank adds ALOT of weight. then only 55 liters.

Actually I have found Toyotas to be the most accurate this way. I think the big difference is the fuel gauge tops out just under a full tank (in all cars) then add the extra litre or two above that and in the fill tube and voila more gas in the top half (of the fuel gauge)= more distance. Start considering a half tank to be when the needle 'just' hits the half mark. Also remember you dont drive until you run out of gas. So you can subtract that left over portion from the difference in fuel gauge full to fuel gauge empty as well.

lets not forget at least with the ae92's and I would assume before the ae92 that the fuel gauge after around a half tank moves around ALOT
