Question Trany wont stay in reverse

I have a 90' Toyota Corolla with a 3 speed auto transaxle. When I shift into reverse the wheels start to move, then the trany locks up. When I press on the gas the engine trys to stall like I have the brakes applied. It does the same thing in park, instead of letting me rev up the engine it trys to stall the engine. Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix the problem? Please advise! Thanks in advance for your help!

You didn't say whether you had checked the obvious things ( transmission fluid level, differential fluid level, whether the cable under the shifter console is loose).

I meant transmission, not car.

Your transmisson is obviously screwed. Does your neutral gear work? My car did the same thing after repated N-Drops..apparently I ahd melted it togetehr. Reverse didn't work, the car jsut bogged...neutrakl acted as first gear..I fixed it buy driving around in neutral for awhile lol.

It was a bad torque converter. Replaced it, and it worked fine for over 3 months. Now its doing something similar. This time the differential leaked out the fluid and it locked up. If I rev the car really high it will move slightly, then clunk and lock up. I'm going to refill it and pray. If it doesn't work, it's back to the junkyard...
