Failed Emissons Test - HELP!

Hey Guys

My check engine light as has been on for a long time and a guy at Mobil mechanics shop said that it was nothing big. When I went to Jiffy Lube he said there is an incorrect fuel mixture. When I failed the emissons test it said "Too Lean"

What do you think it could be?

And how much would it cost to repair? because I'm not good mechanically at all lol

Thanks in adavance guys

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe too lean usually means O2 sensor is dead, which is something Jiffy Lube doesn't work on. Either that or you need a new catalytic converter. Failing emissions usually means O2 Sensor or Cat.

If you need any more info lemme know.

The gas cap test was fine but I failed the OBD Check.

Most likely it's the O2 sensor. Check that first.
But other things can cause leaning condition.
(loose hose, dirty AFM, etc..)

If you cannot do it by yourself, buy the sensor online and have the mechanic put it on.
They are normally cheaper online.
NGK or Denso are the same quality.
For 00 Corolla 1ZZFE,
Toyota dealer $137.98
www.partznet.com 106.24 (Toyota OEM part)
http://www.sparkplugs.com/ $97 (NGK or Denso = OEM part)
ebay ~ $30 for a used one.

Thanks alot man.

I think I'll take it to a mechanic and check it out first before I spend money.

How much do you think the labor will be?

Depends on how much it is going to run you in repairs. Sometimes it is just easier and cheaper to find a shady shop that will "tweek it" and pass you.

Check Engine Light is on? Take it down to Autozone and have them read the code before you spend any money. They'll do it for free. Once you have the code, then you can consider what to do.
