loud noise comming from 4AFE head

about a month ago my engine started to make a strange sound comming from what i thought were the belts. that was part of the problem untill i sprayed them with WD40. then the noise was reduced to inside the valve cover. the noise sounds like its the valves opening and closing. its really loud. i took it to my mechanic and he told me to flush the engine and change the oil to a thicker oil. so i did that and it went away for about the first time i drove it after the oil change. but it still sounds and probably worse now. can any1 suggest anything i can do to make the noise go away?

When you speak of the noise of the valves opening and closing, no specific noise comes to mind. What is the sound like? Could it be the famous problem of "tapping" which is caused by the space between the cams and the valve depressors (or lifters) being too large?

Is the sound a little like rattling/ticking? Heard such rattle/ticking on a '94 Corolla (4AFE) before engine was warned up. Later it stayed always on. Apparently the car had 140000 km on it without the timing belt being changed. Once the timing belt was changed, the sound disappeared and the engine in general sounded a whole lot better too

..and you think an integra isnt underpowered... if my corolla was to blow, I'd get a nissan 200SX or something along those lines. NA sucks.

theres a spring in the intake cam slave gear (under the valve cover) it automatically adjusts the gears backlash and quiets there operation if it was to stretch or break or if a cam was installed incorrectly then you can look at that otherwise check the lifter clearance.
