ahah....you remind me of me! ahaha.....looks like 95_rolla_guy will have to come teach a youngin about that install? well, its very simple bobo, first time is always a lil difficult, i have the same short shifter as you, and you will be p^ssed that they only gave you one of those plastic sockets anyways, its very simple to install, remove the rubber boot, remove the shift knob (lefty lossy righty tighty ) just keep turning it counter clockwise REAL hard and it should unscrew, now you're inside the shifter, you will see to your left (fartest to drivers side) a pin sticking in to keep the linkage together, take the pin off, its gonna be a pita to do, be patient and take your time, once you get it off, remove it from the rod, there will be 4 bolts you will have to take off, you SHOULD see them already, they're in there REAL good, so make sure you have good leverage, after that, there's a nother pin at the bottom of the shifter, you should see it when you try to pull out the shifter, just take the pin out and pull with some force to get out the entire shifter housing with the plastic cover and everything, then you will need to using a screwdriver or something similiar and hammer that pin inside the plastic thing and get that pin out! and finally, on the other side you will need a small knife or something flat (i used a screwdriver) and get the flat piece of metal out, it may seem like it doesn't want to budge, but keeping going at it and get that sucker out, once you do both that, its should be simple, just use your common sense and knowledge, take out the old, put in the new, ALSO but some grease on it, you can try scrapping some off the old shifter, or get those yellow grease or something i forgot what they're called, but just go ask your local car shop about it, and installation of the new shifter is just the reverse of everything i've said, well, good luck and have fun, IMO i dont like the obx one, its TOO big and doesn't even sit as low as it should, i know how you feel i was in the same position as you and the only person on here who could help me on this install was 95_rolla_guy, well, holla back if you have problems, this is real easy to install, dont be like my bro and have a shop do it for $100+

hmm the one on my ae92 seemed pretty easy. Disassemble until I could remove the shifter.. then put the new one in and reasemble.

Thanks guys!!

hmm...is it normal to have this thick silver washer like thing stuck on the shifter lever below the shift knob?

it's preventing me from removing the boot....is there a way to get it off?

the rest of your instructions seem very clear, i've poked around last night and removed the 4 bolts and that was about as far as i got before i gave up and put everything back together

i also compared the OBX to the shifter in there now and it seems like there's only a 1inch drop?

Hence the reason why we stress the use of the SEARCH button FIRST and THEN ask questions if you can't find it. Most of the stuff has already been covered before.

ok...need some help bad now...

so i got everthing going fine up until i tried switching the bottom plastic piece.... well, it was too tight a fit on the shortshifter so stupid me decides to sand it out....now not only does it still not fit the short shifter...it also does not fit old shifter...DOH!

now....i'm assuming i have the wrong short shifter?? part number on the box is SS9397..but this was an open box so if the part number is right maybe the SS was switched with another?

and if the SS is right, where can i get the plastic piece for the bottom??

if i'm screwed, where can i get the original plastic piece?

they are really tight literally you will have to position it under the ball then force the shifter straight down onto it they are really really hard to transfer

if you need a new one either visit the scrapyard or the stealership ae92 (88-92)bushings work the same if you cant find a 93-97

you have the right short shifter, i just checked my box and its the same number, i told you man, you're gonna be p*ssed off, its not even a 1 inch drop, more like 1/2" or not even close, and yes, this shifter will be bigger, so its not gonna slide easily as your stock one, you have to grease it up real good, you can use some of your old grease from the other shifter or find some from the plastic cover and put it inside, OR you can go to a car parts store and ask them that you need grease for your shifter. At first it wont move freely, but drive it around for a couple days or so and it'll eventually settle down (weeks?) well, have fun
