Corolla vs. Camry

I got this 2000 CE camry 2.2 with 5 spd

it's nice but so big and heavy that it's slow. is a corolla of same vintage any faster, also 5 spd?

p.s. it does get great mpg, above 30, which is real important to me.

I wouldn't worry about how fast or slow it is. If you are getting 30 mpg and your having no problems with the car, I would stick with what you have. Going to a v6 camry will speed you up but with a decrease in mpg. You can't have both just jet. I have a corolla matrix and so far i'm getting about 25 mpg. I'm hoping it will get better as my engine breaks in. 30 mpg is great as far as I'm concerned.

What's a Corolla Matrix??? You either have a Corolla OR a Matrix.. which one is it dude??

etc, the 5spd Corolla would probably be a little faster but not much and of course gets a little better mileage.

As a matter of fact, I am getting 33MPG. But I drive real slow, or rather I drive fast but I shift at low rpms, 2000 maybe, 2500 at most. It is a car that forces you to drive like a granny grocer getting.

Anyway, I wonder if there is a Sports version of Corolla.

xrs, or did they discontinue it yet?
that would also consider if your looking at a BRAND new corolla or an older one, and then how old would matter because before the coupe was discontinued the sports model was the gts

xrs and s are the sportiest 9th gen models (2003-2007 model yrs) well the xrs didnt come out until 2005 (could buy it in late 04). LE is the most luxerious one, CE is the base model. Suppose to be a new coupe coming out in 08 200 HP 6 speed manual. The new corolla will be totally different.

xrs is too much for me. Not cost-effective. S or SE maybe.

My mom's 2007 Camry (4-cylinder LE automatic) seems to be faster than my 2002 Corolla (automatic), but maybe that's just because she drives with a heavier foot than I do. She gets 30 mpg, I get 35, to be honest I'd be perfectly happy with either. I just hate the way the new Camrys look, especially in front.
