A little help pls!

hello all. sry if this sounds like an utter noob question, but then again, i am a noob when it comes to cars. i have 1990 corolla dx 4dr and wanted to know how i would be able to find out if it was an ae82, ae86, ae92, or whatever it may be. also, what exactly is "ae92" etc. is it the engine type? if it matters any, it's a manual 5spd. thanx for the help.

You, my friend, have a sixth generation Corolla. AE92 refers to the type of engine you have in your Corolla. I don't know the specs on your engine, but I'm sure it's somewhere on this site. Good luck with your Corolla and welcome to the site.

88 - 92 are all ae92's
your car would have the 4afe althought I am not sure of it's specs I know it's just a little over 100 hp. THe biggest difference between your 90 and my 89 coupe is the thing you have the fuel injection which is what the e in your engine code is for, where as I have the 4af which is carbed and as did every stock ae92 sedan and sr5 coupe in 88 and 89

Wrong, the "A" refers to the type of engine (4"A"FE or 4"A"GE) the AE92 basically means its an A series motor, E9 Corolla Chassis (ninth revision), the 2 means its FWD.

here's a good link to help you see ALL the Corolla generations.

RWD: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/4883/chistory.html

FWD: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/4883/cfwd.html

I still don't understand what people base their "generations" on, there's obviously been more than 6 generations before the AE"9"2 so how is the ninth revision a 6th gen??
