fuel warning indicator on 2001 Corolla

Hello all

I'm a newbie here.

I just purchased a 2001 Corolla CE Automatic with all the trimings last friday. I currenlty have 118000 KM's on the car.

The gas warning indicator light came on and off for a little while then started to come on more.

I know that the tank can take like 49.5L in total, when I filled it up, it took 36L. Is this normal? How do I know for sure when the light is really on? When the light does come on for real, how much fuel is left in the tank?

Thanks for your help.

G'day,
I've got a 97 corolla.. on that the fuel light comes on with about 38-40L gone out of a 45 odd L tank. I can drive nearly 100kms on the warning light. But what your describing sounds a lot bigger, could be a model difference, but I'd suggest that maybe you're over estimating the tank size a little, is it really 49.5L?

Hello

Actualy the Manual says 50L tank. But I think if you do the math it's more like 49.5 ich. I guess I might not be used to the ligh coming on and off. My old car, when the ligh came on, it stayed.

Thanks
