I don't know if I ever would attempt to install an alarm on my own, I've done a few head units and amps, but alarms are a little more complicated as you have to tap into other wires in the car.
Check around for good deals dude, most Audio & Security shops charge about $100 to install an alarm but some places like Best Buys will include the installation in the price of their alarms, so if you can find a good alarm for a good price, go for it.
As for names, I'm not too sure what brands are tops right now. From what I recall Compustar was tops a few years ago and they're pretty expensive as they're usually loaded with features. Other names that come to mind are Audiovox, CodeAlarm, Viper and even Alpine used to make alarms.
^thanks ren, its just i was at Wal-Mart and i saw some alarms there and it said "EASY INSTALLION" "Includes install video, install yourself in no time!" or some crap like that, so i figure it should be pretty simple, but....oh well, i'll take a look at best buy, didn't know they had best buys in canada ;p jk
car alarm = waste of money...
Unless it's got some GPS function that will help you locate the car. Because honestly think of who responds to car alarms now? usually no one
and yea best buy = american futureshop guess they decided to bring them here. ALl over now

wal mart alarms = waiste of money that is just a gimmick, they dont work at all, go to best buy or some place like that, and you can get an alarm installed for around 200 to 700 bucks depending on what features you want...
STAY AWAY FROM THOSE WAL MART POS, trust me they suck

like I said, unless your going GPS locator then save your money. All it will do is make a tonn of noise and everyone will think someone hit their panic button again. Even if they didn't think that most people still won't do anything. stuff in the car will be taken or car will be stolen. At least if it's stolen with the gps locators you can get them back or even catch the criminal driving the car . Like honestly look at how many new cars come with alarms... and look at how many are still stolen.
you need that stickdeath.com car alarm system, where it kills the thief lol oh that video seemed so funny 5 years ago lol
well, i'm not planning to spend hundreds installing just an alarm, all i want is just a regular alarm and because i'm not rich $$$, if i can hear the alarm while sleeping i'll wake up and hand the thieves their ass :p plus i'm buying rims now, and exterior mods in the future so my car will be a sitting duck, i just wanna be cautious, +lug nut locks ftw!! i'm gonna go to best buy right now and check out their alarms, thanks everyone
good news, the cheapest they got is the Viper alarm for about $130, and they charge $5 to install, plus tax so about $140 total, seriously guys, is a car alarm THAT hard to install?? anyone ever done it before?
which Viper is that? the 310V?? I've seen that one down here in Canada for $199CDN Installed, but it doesn't add up since the currency exchange is a little closer now. Maybe its a lower model.
I installed one for my rolla. it worked but i did it myself so a couple of things were left out(didnt know where to connect wires to). pay a pro to install it
I disagree that an alarm is a waste of money. I had $1300 in aftermarket stereo equipment stolen, so I tinted the windows and had a Viper alarm installed. Havent had a problem since, and I live in an area where there should definitely be a problem.
If you have a $1300 system, the best deterrant is not to "flash" it all the time. If you crank it all the time and drive through bad areas, people remember your car and look for you.
That's why when I build my systems, I go for stuff that I can enjoy rather than the whole neighbourhood. As long as I can feel the sound in the car, I don't care.
cheap alarms are pointless get a 2way pager alarm so you know when someone is messing with your stuff, also just the fact you have an alarm will deter theives all our families cars were out one night they broke into my moms and dads but left mine alone because of the alarm. i once had some stereo gear stolen from my old car ever since then ive had alarms never again!
*Edit* also stay away from cheap-ass crap because the remotes give out then you cant get a replacement! stick with name brands!!!!
