Giving in.

That's it! My engine has pissed me off for the last time. First major power loss, then extra long choke (idle at 2,100 rpm for 8-15 min befor droping down to 1,200 rpm), then over heating and now a loud ticking noise when I start it. WTF! There was no ticking last time I started it.

I'm going to drop the car off to the people who made it and have them fix it. If it will cost allot to fix I'm going to have my spare dropped in and sell that engine off. Stupid 70k km 88-89 4A-GE engine. My 150k km 86-87 4A-GE out of the old car always treated me right.

Oh, and any recomendations on performance breaks? Is a TRD kit any good? My rotors are warped so I'll have to replace it all sooner or later.

Brakes? Only TRD part I have in my car is my shiftknob ;P I dont usually buy TRD because they're WAY overpriced.. but anyhow, about brakes, I'd check the following; ATE, DBA (diskbrakes australia), Brembo, Baer, Tom's, AP racing.

for the budget minded, generic replacement rotors + PBR metalmaster pads

if u got some dough, get KVR.

hehe....i c frustration but keep trying...im pretty sure ur 4AG will start smooth.....have you checked the valve??? how bad is the clicking???? i wanna see that AE86 running by summer man!
i changed my timing to 18 degree.....and damn! my high end is lot better but my low end dropped dramatically....thinking of changing back to 14 degree.... and also, my idle starting to toggle from 900 rpm to 1600.....im guessing my cooling system is not bled properly....

but dun give up jus yet....i dunno how you got 70km on that motor?

I was told that the engine was imported from Japan.

And as for budget to have the car fixed up plus minor mods I have $5,000 to work with.

Do some screwed up reason, I'm having that same ideling problem! Sometimes my car idles at 1,200 and sometimes at 500 RPM..

I tried to adjust the idling screw, but I think it's the ECU that's controlling it and making it go down to 500, but I wonder why!!
