1987 idles, won't rev

Greetings to yall. Car is a 1987 Chebby Nova, which I'm told is a Corolla. Has been sitting for about 5 years. I'm trying to get it going for my next door neighbors who are having $ issues.
I removed the plugs and oiled the cylinders, checked/added fluids, and car wouldn't start. Would run and sputter on carb cleaner though. I removed air cleaner and found dirt daubers nest on some kind of arm/linkage on back of carb. Freed that up and car will start, and idle amazingly nicely. However, if you try to rev it up, it bogs and dies, or if I let off in time will go back to idle.
I'm sure old gas has turned to varnish, and carb is gummed. Is there a jet that may be plugged that is different from the idle? Of course I treated gas in tank, and added a gallon or so of fresh. I have liberally sprayed carb with carb cleaner, but no luck.
I've searched "carburator, bogs, storage, idle," etc..... and have not found an answer.
Thanks for any replies.
Jimmy

Full carb disassembly and rebuild is in order. Get new plugs too and probably wires and a dizzy cap and rotor. New fuel filter too.

yeah i agree the carb is probably plugged up, PS if you use throttle body cleaner rather than carb cleaner you wont ruin rubber parts, try spraying down the barrels and cleaning the jets
