extra rev sound like a v-tec?

OK so i gotten my cat cut and my muffler is cut on my 98 corolla LE, i have my new preformance muffler but im waiting for a part, now i driven for a while USUALLY with some music on, but the only time i didn't at about 50-80+mph i hear the engine (not like a v-tec its just louder maybe cuz i dont have those two on my exhaust system and maybe cuz it was in the last gears.)sounds like on a manual shifting down when let off on the gas its an automatic with overdrive. do you think it prolly hit the last gear and since i have no cat or muffler thats why i can hear it?
usually on the freeway 50+mph the last gear and the overdrive gear, hold like a manual (im assumeing thats normal cuz when i gotten the car it was like that and my mom never drove it hard, only to work and home) so do you think the sound could be normal since i dont have those two on the exhaust system?

Overdrive shouldn't slip much (at all) on most any automatic.

like instead of the regular pitched sound on highways speeds, the engine is louder , could it be the head gasket? or could it be the fact that i have both no muffler or cat?

The head gasket?? And let me get this straight... you basically have no exhaust, and you are wondering why your car is louder?

wait???? you have no muffler and no cat????? so you are running a straight pipe from the headers to the back of the car..... well there is the cause for the increased engine noise

Try fixing your exhaust. By fixing I mean having a CAT and MUFFLER. Also, if the sraight pipe is on there with exhaust clamps and flex pipe, it is probably loose and/or has holes in it. Just get a new exhaust. Your VTEC hasn't kicked in, you don't have it.

I recommend unbolting the entire exhaust, even the manifold, your car will get M4D 3rd Ge4r v4ax, plus it is a 100% weight saving in exhaust components.

(note: there may be some downsides to doing the above "mod")
