'01 Corolla - oil

Hey Folks,

I have an '01 Corolla with 94k km on it. All previous oil changes have been at the stealership (factory warranty expired in March), however, I want to start changing my own oil.

I drive the hell out of my car (put 54k km on the car in less than 2 yrs, and for that reason I've decided to go synthetic; doing a synthetic change myself will cost around the same as a dealer change using conventional oil (when the synthetic is purchased on sale). That said, I have two questions;

1) How much oil should be added to the engine when it's empty? Large bottles of oil in Canada are sold in 4.4 litre sizes, and I'm failry certain that the engine doesn't require 4.4 litres.

2) Does anyone know if Mobile 1 is worth the additional markup compared to other Synthetic oils (ie: Castrol, Q, Penzoil) ?
