Is it possible to put a hitch assembly on a 1990 Corolla SR5? Prefer to rig something up myself rather than take it into a shop (it's, well.... a bit of a beater).
I'd appreciate any advice or pics if someone has done it before.
Thanks!

its fine to tow especially with a manual trans, if its auto take it easy overheat.....
best bet is to call around i bought a hidden hitch for i think $160 and $40 for the wiring converter, Another option is go to the scrap yard and find a used one...
if you do buy one dont hack up the back of the frame to use retarded Imperial hardware they give you , get metric hardware off a scrap yota's front subframe and use that in the existing holes! theyre there just waiting for a hitch!

ah thats not to bad.
It's not that I don't see toyotas with hitches I just see some people can over do it with over filling the trailer with heavy crap, not really that great for the car.
it's the same as a person sure they may be able to carry or pull something really heavy but the over exertion will be felt later...
I'll have to take a closer look at some of the Corollas in the Pick and Pull. I would imagine that hitches from any Corolla of these years would bolt up to it?
So there are pre-existing bolt holes in the unibody? Whereabouts are they located, I'll have to take a look once it cools down a bit.

freakinbox, I've seen corollas haul concrete bricks, a mobile home, boats, livingroom furniture, you name it. Its really not that big of a deal and these corollas drive 400-500000km easily.
Yes you can put a hitch on there. No there are no holes in the body already. You will have to find one that has been made for the car and drill the holes yourself. You will need three holes, two for the supporting rod and one for the cable. These will all fit in the spare tyre well in the boot.
And the Towing capacity for the AExxx are:
Trailer without brakes: 500kg (~1000lb)
Trailer with brakes: 850kg (~1600lb).
Downweight: 50kg (~100lb) (How much weight is on the hitch).
All of this info is off the two corollas i have in my yard, both with towballs... EDIT: BTW, they are all Gross Weights too (ie. Tare (Trailer empty weight) + Aggregate (Load Weight))

I'll take photo's of mine when i get home (At work atm), but there should be two bolts that hold the whole assembly to the car, and one to feed the cable thru for the trailer lights and plug socket... Like i said.. Will take photo's when i get home...
EDIT: Oh, that one you have been offered goes thru the bumper? or onto the chassis? All the ones i have seen have a supporting rod across the bottom and a tounge that comes out from that...

Ah, that cable. Wasn't sure if you were talking about some sort of wire cable as a safety harness or something like that. Yeah, pics would be great, be very much appreciated
I'm not entirely sure how this one mounts, I looked at the backside of the bumper and it seems to be fairly strong. I guess it's either that or the spare tire well, but I don't suppose that's beefy enough?
