should I get my new Corolla rustproofed?

Hi! I'm a new 2003 Corolla owner (yahooooo!) and need some advice. I've heard many conflicting opinions about getting the car rustproofed. What are your thoughts?

First, read your owner's manual and waranty booklet. If they say anything about voiding your warranty, pay heed.
I always got my '89 Corolla rustproofed anually for the 1st 7 years, after which I switched to oil spray. It is messy but it really works, provided that you do it every year or better. My 2003 Passat says that oil spray will interfere with the aluminized wax sprayed at the factory; since I'm playing with a 12 year warranty I don't wish to trifle. Check with the dealer and then write Toyota directly. Don't forget to wax it (once a month if you're a fanatic) and also touch it up as required. You should do well with that.

There are actually a couple of issues at work there.

If you have 'unlimited' hole through warranty on your car I don't think I would want anyone drilling holes or doing something to mess the warranty up.

Your best bet is to wash it every fillup wax it every two months and get paint touchup and apply that to new rock chips. I would also spend the extra bucks on a plastic deflector for the hood. They can be bought from the dealer. The new corollas are set up a lot like our Echo in the front end. Our hood collects many rock chips and has even been dented a few times, so bad it almost looks like the car was shot with a 22.

You should be covered for rust in your waranty. I believe my waranty says I am covered for life on body rust... You ahould ahve the same... check it out..

if you have non of the above ^ then yeah rust proof it for sure

remember ONLY if you have no rust coverage on warrenty and factory wax spray stuff doesn't apply to your specific vehicle

If you live in a place where they use road salt, rustproof it or you wont last one winter without having your undercarriage already rusted. 2 winters and you already have holes though the body. period.

don't the new cars, including yours come pre-rust proofed.....
i believe there is a 3 year bumper to bumper warrenty so i'd prob opt. to get it rust -proffed after that time when the warranty is out.

and ya if u drive in winter conditions where salt is used on the roads, rust proffing is a must

Yeah, maybe when you bought a new car ten years ago...

My parents live in Maine which is easily as shitty in Winter as southern Canada, salt on the roads and all, they have 150,000+ miles on their 1999 Volvo (yes all those miles in 4 years), they have never done after-market rust proofing and their body is mint.

Their 1986 Dodge Ram-Charger however was mint when they bought it used in the mid-nineties, but now the quarter panels are rusted to sh1t...

New cars are rust proofed at the factory and most have a body rust waranty wich is life time, like the power train waranty, not 36,000miles/3 years like the full waranty.
