1993 Wagon Tranny Issue

I have a 1993 Corolla Wagon, 1.8l, Auto, 290k on the car.

Here is the problem I am having, the tranny doesn't seem to shift out of second gear. I drove the car home when I bought back in December and it worked fine then.

I just finished all the work that needed to be done on it and put it on the road and am now having this tranny problem.

There are shift valves, etc. that can go bad, get plugged. You might try changing the trans oil (if you have not yet done so) and see if this helps. If electronic control, you might check for loose wires. 290K miles is a lot for a transmission. A good used one may be pretty reasonable.

290k kms actually since he's from Canada, chances are the transmission wasn't treated properly, change the transmission fluid and if this doesn't work; you might just need a new one.

Just an FYI, it ended up being the Neutral Safety Switch.
