4-AFE Mods

Hello everyone,

I got my hands on a 1995 Toyota Corolla with the 1.6L inline 4 engine (4-AFE). The car is running 92,000 KM with a 3-speed transmission.

I've been told by my friend that this car has around 110 bhp with 100 torque. I cannot seem to verify this information since the car is neither a DX or LE edition... just Corolla.

Furthermore, since I got this car for free, I was wondering what kind of modifications I could do to this car to increase hp, torque etc. Will a turbo or cold air intake work in this car?

Any suggestions will be fine.

Thank You.

Turbo will definately work to fix the hp lack, but only to a certain extent. Stock internals are really only good to around 5-6psi and as you can see from the room between the engine and rad, all you can really squeeze in there is a T-25 or maybe a T-26 - unless of course you have a massive shoehorn...

CAI might add a little hp, but that is negligable. Same with a cat-bak if you were thinking that.

As far as the engine stats are concerned, the engine puts out 100chp, not bhp. My FE was dynoed at 66kW (105.6bhp) with a SRI, Cat-back and a few other minor engine mods so stock it will be a little less than that.

BTW: with your considering Turbo conversion, is the starter on the intake or exaust side? As this will make a difference as to wheather or not the Turbo eats the starters or not...

Why not do a manual conversion, will improve performance alot. and will be cheaper to run and more fun to drive.

Also on a side note, 66kw is 88.5hp by my calculations.

You sure? I thought it was 1.6hp to a kW? Maybe im getting confused...

Edit: N/M, i was getting confused. It is 1.3hp to a kW. And the dyno graph was 86, not 66 - Sorry. Just rang the guy to confirm..

Pretty sure, I believe 1kw is 1.34hp (there are a few different measurements ps bhp etc etc. they are all within a few % of each other)
