squish, bang, blow, suck

okay, my 4af is having some irregular idling problems.

not that i have a lot money to put into this econo box i thought to ask here.

from what i understand, i think that there is some oil that is getting past a cylinder. as there is some, but not a lot, of white smoke coming out the exhaust.

next step is to get it compression tested.

but what is a good standard compression for this engine?

But here is the clincher.

this only happens during idle.....so when the light turns green, and as i depress the accelerator, the car shakes a bit, but then it seems as if all 4 pistons are doing all the four strokes just normally.

This happened once before hand, and so, i thought to buy some fo that engine re-nu [bardalls engine fix in a can?] and see what could happen from there.

It solved the problem for a good 2 tanks....and then it happened again.

This engine is in pretty good shape....I have a speed auto, nothing done to it, but i did replace the spark plugs just recently.

IT gets about 520 km per tank, and has decent power for being an older car.

Aside from that, i shall sit and await patiently as to what some of you say.

I'm sorry to inform you that 4AF's have an idling problem! Mine does, and it's an ECU thing, I tried to adjust the idling screw to 800RPM and the ECU puts it back down...

so how do i go about fixing this?

and why would it smoke out the tail pipe? and then when not idling it burns clean?
