Picked up another blown engine Rolla

This one tho, a '89 is carbed. First one I've run across. I have a spare 4AFE and I'm thinking I can just drill/tap/plug injector holes in head but about the fuel pump????? I see that the FE head has provision for the mech fuel pump but is not punched out. (even has threaded holes for the pump to mount on) Anybody ever drill a large hole in a FE head to mount the old mech fuel pump? I know I'm working backward from what you guys usually do to cars but my goal is to get by as cheap as possible for resale. I picked up 3 for 500 bucks and hope to get two running from it. the crappiest one being for parts(plus my leftover injected engine) Carbed head has a large burned out area from someone driving with blown head gasket and eating out the separation between cylinders thus I either need to change head or welding and milling old one. Junk yards are a joke here, parts are worse from them than what I have on hand.

Cool

You probably could not get the holes drilled in the exact place needed for the pump cam arm to work properly, and you only have one shot at drilling the holes. I would think doing that and getting it right would be close to impossible for any shop but a pro shop. You can get an electric fuel pump very cheap. But then again, you can get a a regular fuel pump for $35.00 new. Why can't you get a used head from a junk yard there? Or just grab some loaner tools (if needed) and put a new headgasket in and grab any used parts from a junk yard? Why can't you get parts from a junk yard? I saw someone grab a whole engine for $200 here in San Diego. The engine looked fine but when I saw it it had already been taken out of the junked car, never saw it ran.

You can always have the head milled a couple thousandth's for a few dollars on the head that had the blown gasket... if it was realy that bad. That could save you tons of money and work, and it's an easy job.

I've been wrenching on cars for 18 years now and I know it is not worth the time and effort to convert or alter an engine and then sell it for a few bucks. I would do this if it would quadruple the value. Unless this is what you need to drive everyday I would just rebuild the engine and slap a better intake and webers. The money your gonna spend at the machine you can save and get headers and catback exhaust on eBay. It would run quicker and stronger than the fuel injected engine. It would sound cool too
