MAF Sensor Compatibility Question

Hello All,

My dad's 2001 Corolla just threw a code P0171 (fuel trim lean bank 1). From what I've read, it's probably the MAF sensor. I think the O2 sensor is fine because the car has only 21K miles on the odm. I just have a couple of quick question:

Is there a way to test MAF sensors (with a voltmeter)?
Would an O2 sensor from an 06 Corolla work in my dad's 01?

Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the sensor.

disconnect your negative battery terminal and take out the sensor (two screws)

Once you take it out you can spray it with electrode cleaner. Becareful thought the element inside is pretty fragile.

I usually wait about 15 min for everything to dry they put it all back.

I tried cleaning it a couple of times with non-chorinated brake cleaner. It was covered with oil so I thought cleaning it would do the trick, but the light reappeared about 40 miles later.

The auto section of msn.com notes that the MAF sensor is a relatively common problem for this model year. For some reason, the ones fitted for this car are pretty fragile.

Are others experiencing this problem?

There are quite a few people on here that are experiancing the same problem at the moment. Unfortunately it is just a case of clean it or replace it

Not much else you can do... So long as the part number is the same between MAF sensors - they will work correctly...
